This paper aims to ompare and ontrast two types of model (logisti regression and de ision tree indu tion) for the diagnosis of arpal tunnel syndrome using four ordered lassi ation ategories. Initially, we present the lassi ation performan e results based on more than two ovariates (multivariate ase). Our results suggest that there is no signi ant di eren e between the two methods. Further to this investigation, we present a detailed omparison of the stru ture of bivariate versions of the models. The rst surprising result of this analysis is that the lassi ation a ura y of the bivariate models is slightly higher than that of the multivariate ones. In addition, the bivariate models lend themselves to graphi al analysis, where the orresponding de ision regions an easily be represented in the two-dimensional ovariate spa e. This analysis reveals important stru tural di eren es between the two models. 2
